Whips, Wits & Where the Mind Goes: Exploring Headspace Before, During & After the Scene

📚 ABOUT THE CLASS

A BDSM scene is more than what happens in the moment—it is an experience that begins long before play starts and can continue well after the scene ends. Headspace explores the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of creating a fulfilling and responsible scene, with a focus on communication, consent, awareness, and connection.

In this class, we will explore what to consider before, during, and after a play scene, including negotiation, establishing boundaries and expectations, identifying needs, creating a shared headspace, and recognizing changes in communication and body language throughout a scene.

We will also discuss different types of scene play and the "laws" or guiding principles that can help participants navigate power exchange, consent, risk awareness, and responsibility. Special attention will be given to maintaining communication and awareness while a scene is in progress and understanding when adjustments or a complete stop may be necessary.

The class will conclude with a discussion of aftercare—what it is, why it matters, and how different people may have very different physical and emotional needs following a scene. We will also talk about wound (cut flesh) care if this happens. We will discuss the different types of whips, blood knots, and whip crackers. We will also include a demonstration of a whip scene, using it as an educational example to illustrate preparation, communication, technique, safety considerations, scene flow, and aftercare.

🎤 MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS

DaddyQball began his leather journey in Germany in 1985 while serving in the U.S. Army, learning the lifestyle through mentorship, discipline, service, and education. From his beginnings as a submissive to receiving his Master’s cover in 2013, he has remained committed to continual growth and giving that knowledge back to the community. He has presented at Spring Iniquity, HPEP Educational Munches, GWNN Bash, Beaumont Texas Area Kinksters, and the Austin Mentors Program.

Shiny Jewels, also known as Pup Zoe, is a proud babygirl and pup whose leather journey is rooted in mentorship, education, service, and community. A 2013 graduate of the Austin Submissive Mentors Program, she has co-presented with DaddyQball at events across Texas and currently holds the title of Miss Silver Spurs 2026. She has also judged both the Space City Leather Pup and Handler Contest and the Galveston Pup Contest and is always ready to lend a paw, volunteer, and support her community. 🐾
